How To Save On Dentures And Other Major Dental Work

I want to take a few minutes to explain to you how inexpensive it can actually be to get your dentures replaced. You see, many people are obsessed with the thought that dental insurance is the "end all" when it comes to getting some type of coverage for your teeth, but I'm telling you that you are way off base if this is what you think.
When people think of insurance they think of car insurance, homeowners insurance, medical insurance etc. and, unfortunately, they place dental care in that same category. I'm telling you now that it's just not that great of a deal anymore. This is not some big sales pitch, it's just the facts. Let me explain.
Dental insurance is designed almost exclusively for preventive maintenance care. This is to cover things like cleanings, x-rays, fluoride treatments, routine checkups etc., not dentures, root canals, bridge work, oral surgery or anything major. If you are having problems with your teeth and you go and purchase a dental insurance policy today, you will not be covered for whatever problems you're having. It doesn't work like that.
Standard dental insurance policies require a six to 12 month waiting period on any condition that is considered to be pre-existing. It means that if you have a toothache you're going to pay for the cost of getting that fixed out of your pocket until six to 12 months has past. In the meantime, you're going to pay monthly premiums that can be very high and you're also going to pay a deductible on any other needs that you need to get taken care of. Are you beginning to get the picture?
The alternative that I'm talking about is called a dental discount plan. Dental discount plans are sometimes also referred to as discount dental plans. What these offer is a big discount for being a member of the plans network. This is how it works. You pay a small fee to become a member of the plan, this is normally as low as $80 per year for an individual or $150 per year for an entire family.
After paying your initial membership fee, you can visit any dentist within the plan network and receive substantial discounts of anywhere from 10 to 60% on everyday dental procedures. This means that if you need upper dentures you can save up to 60% off of the cost that you usually pay. I was looking at one of the plans in the Phoenix, Arizona area recently and the usual cost for upper dentures there was $1252, but with the savings in the plan the cost was only around $700 . That's a savings of over $500 just on this one procedure alone. This example is only for one area and the savings could be more or less, depending on the area that you happen to live in.
With dental discount plans pre-existing conditions are not a problem, there are no exclusions, no limitations and no age limits. The only thing that you need to do is pay the discounted fee at the time that you see the dentist, that's all. You get a substantial discount off of your dental work and your dentist gets paid cash on the spot. This is a "win-win" situation for both you and your dentist. If you are in need of dental work, especially something major like dentures, as in the example explained above, a highly recommend that you take a look at dental discount plans.

How to Make Your Loose Dentures Fit Better

Did you know the history of dentures (false teeth) can be traced all the way back to the 15th century? Back then, false teeth were made of many different materials such as: hand carved animal bones, animal teeth, human teeth, flint, hardwood, whalebone and elephant ivory. String and gold wire were often used to anchor the teeth in place. Of course, those primitive false teeth were quite crude and uncomfortable and they were only worn "for show" or when appearing in public. We are told those ancient wearers of artificial teeth always removed their teeth when eating. What's more, many false teeth wearers made it their practice to leave the dinner table when food was served and they would then go to a private room where they ate only soft food or soup in a place where no one could watch them.
Centuries ago there were many cruel and even brutal ways to relieve the pain of persistent toothache and tooth extraction. But, over the years, the methods of taking care of teeth have gradually improved. Today, the treatment of teeth and mouth problems has become a respected profession.
Now a days a modern dentist, after extracting the teeth of his patients, will have prepared a denture ahead of time and will immediately fit the patient with new almost perfectly shaped and fitted upper or lower acrylic plastic dentures. The dentist's reason for putting these new artificial teeth in place so soon is simply to make it possible for the patient to walk out of his dental office and immediately resume life's normal activities including: eating, talking and smiling.
However, here is what happens a few days' weeks or months after getting new dentures. For a while, the wearer finds the new artificial teeth to be quite efficient and reasonably comfortable. But, what most new denture wearers do not realize is that our body's way of reacting to the removal of the natural teeth is to begin a very slow, never-ending process of shrinking. That shrinking process slowly changes the shape of gums jawbones and even the lips. Sooner or later, the denture that once fit so perfectly, because of this constant shrinkage, will get loose to the point where it can become quite uncomfortable to keep in the mouth - even when eating. Soon the dentures have far less support, stability and retention than what is needed for the wearer's comfort.
For example: I can still remember how my father "wore" his upper denture in his shirt pocket. Then at suppertime, he would turn his face away from the table and very quietly and carefully put his denture in his mouth so he could chew and eat his food properly. Soon after the meal, he took his teeth out of his mouth and put them back in his pocket. One time I asked him about this and he said: "Terry, if I keep my dentures in all the time, they are so loose I get sores on my gums, and beside that, the denture may even make me to gag or cough. So to avoid all of that discomfort, I simply take the denture out and put it in my pocket. There are times when I feel like I want to throw the denture away, but, since I still get hungry three times a day - I just have endure wearing my false teeth whenever I eat or visit with people."
Now that I am a denture wearer, I know exactly how my father felt about his very uncomfortable denture. But, here is the good news! I have invented a way to salvage, that is, to give new life to my denture and at the same time make the denture far more comfortable to wear all day - and not just when I'm eating.
You see, when your denture is loose, that means the denture has no stability and rather poor retention. To correct these problems you should not have to spend money to visit your dentist or even buy a new denture. In addition, to have a more comfortable denture you should not have to pay your dentist to have your denture professionally re-lined every few years. Instead, you can now make your denture fit like new again by simply lining the upper surface of the denture with my new soft, pliable denture liner compound. You put the liner on the top surface of the denture and it adds some thickness that is designed to compensate for all of that natural gum and bone shrinkage. In short, the liner "fills the gaps" left by the shrinkage. This low cost denture liner requires no mixing and you can add the easily shaped liner to your denture in the privacy of your own home in just a few minutes.
The pleasant result is, you will have a much more comfortable denture with much improved: support, stability and retention. At the same time, there will be no more hiding or "wearing" your denture in one of your pockets. There are many benefits to having dentures that are comfortably secure such as: you can enjoy eating again, you can bite apples and corn on the cob, you can chew your food the way you used to chew it with your natural teeth.
Best of all, since you have now found this easy way to make your denture fit better with this liner, you will discover that you: feel better, look better and have the confidence to give everyone you meet one of your big beautiful smiles!

How To Great Quality Cheap Dentures

Are you in need of cheap dentures, but don't want to sacrifice quality? Are you having trouble finding dentures that are affordable? There may be an option that could save you as much as 50%-60% on your next set of dentures. Would that interest you at all? Read on...
The best way that I know of to get cheap dentures is by getting yourself a dental discount plan. Discount plans are not insurance policies, they simply provide big discounts on everyday dental care and offer huge discounts on most major dental procedures, such as dentures, bridge work, root canals and more. There are certain discount plans that even offer sizable discounts on things like Orthodontics and Cosmetic Dentistry.
This is what you'll need to do. Locate a participating dentist in your area and then join a discount dental plan. The membership fees for joining are extremely low. Cost for individuals is usually less than $100 per year and under $200 for families. The savings far outweighs the cost of the dental plan.
You'll receive confirmation within a couple days and you can then start seeing your new dentist and take advantage of all of the savings offered. The only thing that you must be prepared to do is pay for your visit in full at the time of your appointment. Since there is no insurance involved and the dentist is giving you these big discounts, understandably, they're asking to be paid in full for the care they provide at the time of the appointment.
I guarantee you that if you had a pre-existing condition and bought dental insurance to take care of it, that you'd be paying for 100% of the costs. That's because dental insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions without a waiting period of several months. Take a good look at the dental discount plans if you're looking for cheap dentures. You may be pleasantly surprised.

How To Find Cheap Dentures In Your Area

Have you been putting off buying new dentures because the cost of dentures is just more than you can ever seem to afford? It's not easy finding cheap dentures nowadays, especially if you live in areas where there is less people. You see, it seems that most of the best dental care rates lie within the larger metro areas of cities, such as Denver, Phoenix, Dallas, etc. and the people that live in rural areas get stuck with bigger bills because there aren't as many dentists and there's not as much competition as there is in a big city area.
There are still ways that you can save money on new dentures regardless of where you live. One of the best ways to get cheap dentures is by joining a discount dental plan and visiting dentists within the network of that plan. You see, discount plans don't work like dental insurance. You can be seen for any pre-existing condition, including dentures, for whatever the reason may be. These dentists and specialists have agreed to accept patients for a much lower fee in exchange for being paid in full at the time of the appointment. Let me give you an example.
Here is an example of a discount plan in the Salt Lake City, Utah area, zip code 84110.
The average cost of buying new dentures in the USA is exactly $1252.00 (according to statistics taken in 2005). Of course, this depends on the grade of material used for your new teeth, the area in which you live and more, but this is a good measuring stick to go by. The savings that you will receive by joining this particular discount plan is huge. The cost of a new upper denture with this plan is only $694.00, which instantly saves you $558.00. The cost of joining this plan is just $99.95 annually for an individual or only $149.95 for a family plan.
As an individual you will save $458.05 after paying for your annual membership fee. Also, you'll be able to save money every time you visit the dentist for the next full year. If you have a family you'll pay just $50.00 more and your savings will multiply times the number of family members you have. There'll be no more excuses for not being able to take your kids in for a check-up twice per year as recommended.
So if you've been looking for a way to get cheap dentures then you should take a look at a discount dental plan today. You may just be pleasantly surprised at what you find out.

How To Find Affordable Dentures In Your Area Today

Finding affordable dentures these days can be just like pulling teeth. Pardon my poor attempt at humor but do you know what I mean? The costs of dental care have gone through the roof over the past few years, just as in health care, and it's becoming more and more difficult for most people on a moderate income to be able to afford to replace their decaying teeth with dentures.
Most dental insurance won't cover dentures because they're considered to be cosmetic. Also, no dental insurance will cover any condition that was pre-existing when you bought the policy. In other words, if you were already missing teeth then you'd be on your own anyway.
One excellent option for getting affordable dentures is called a discount dental plan. Unlike insurance, discount plans do offer big savings on pre-existing conditions and other routine and major dental care.
Here's an example of how a discount dental plan works.
This example is based on zip code 73110, which is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I'm just doing this at random so please bear with me.
The first thing we want to do is find a participating dentist in this area, someone that accepts discount dental plans. By doing a local search I've discovered that there are 154 participating dentists within a 50 mile radius of this zip code.
Next, I want to see how much money I can save on dentures. The usual cost averages around $1250.00 nationally for an upper denture, so I'll use that as an example. The plan that offers the greatest savings in this area gives a price of $694.00, a savings of $556.00 for your upper dentures. The annual membership fee for this plan is only $99.95 for an individual. If you have a family you can enroll them for just $50.00 more and save as much as 60% on dental care such as cleanings, fillings, root canals, crowns, x-rays and so much more.
The bottom line - if you are in need of affordable dentures then there's a very good chance that you can save a lot of money and hassle by joining a discount dental plan. Look into it today!

How To Find Affordable Dentures - Today

Are you in need of affordable dentures? Are the out-of-pocket costs at the dentist's office beginning to hurt your feelings? Have you been looking for something that will solve all your dental care needs once and for all? Well, here is an option that you may not have been aware of. It's called a dental discount plan.
It's really very simple, dental discount plans offer substantial discounts of anywhere from 10-60% off of the cost of normal dental procedures. How this works is that many qualified dentist's join together to create a network. By creating this network, they've also created buying power for supplies and equipment that they need on a daily basis in order in to maintain their practice.
Another advantage for a dentist to be a part of the network is that part of the requirements of the plan are that you pay cash for the discounted procedure at the time of your visit. Dental discount plans are not insurance, therefore, you do have to pay for the discount rate out-of-pocket. However, on items such as dentures, the savings can be quite huge. Let me you give you an example.
I found one plan where the cost of upper dentures is $1252 normally, however with a discount plan your costs would only be $728, a savings $524. The cost for this particular plan is $139.95 for an individual plan or $189.95 for a family plan for an entire year. $524 is a substantial savings, even after deducting the cost of membership. With a savings of $524, minus $189.95 for a family plan, that still leaves you with a savings of $334.05. If you're an individual then you would only have to pay $139.95 and your savings would be $384.05. This is just for one procedure. If you need anything else done over the entire year, especially if you have a family, your savings could potentially be huge. You would save on things like cleanings, fillings, x-rays and much, much more, depending on which plan you decide on.
Some plans even offer extra benefits such as vision, hearing, pharmacy benefits, cosmetic dentistry and more. Once again, you'll have to look and decide which plan is best for you and your family.
This is an example using one particular plan based on the Midland, Texas area. Please be aware that these examples of savings may be less or even more than what is shown here. Savings tend to be higher in more populated areas because of the competition between more dentists.
Once again, if you're in need of affordable dentures, then don't waste another day waiting for your teeth. I highly recommend that you look into dental discount plans and take advantage of the huge savings that they offer.

How to Effectively Stop Pain Associated With Teething Or Irritation of Dentures?

One of the milestones in the lives of babies is the teething process. This stage begins at the age of three or four months and can last up to the second or third year as babies grow out their first set of teeth. On the other end of the spectrum, adults have their own teeth-related milestone, as well. This event occurs when older adults lose their teeth instead of growing them, which will necessitate the use of dentures.
Teething, for some babies, can go by without a hitch. For other babies, it is a long, painful and tantrum-filled time which can be aggravated by colds, fevers, fussiness and diarrhea. In any case, both doctors and parents agree that the teething process can be uncomfortable for babies to some degree or another.
When adults get fitted with their first set of dentures, there will necessarily be a huge amount of discomfort as the gums adjust to the snug fit of fabricated teeth that is not their own. Dentures are usually made of synthetic material like porcelain, and gums and other soft tissues of the mouth that are not used to such material may be be subject to irritation and even develop ulcers, wounds or sores. In some instances, an aching jaw and headaches are common.
Babies who are about to start teething will exhibit tell-tale signs such as drooling, which increases as the teeth prepare to break out of the gums. During the teething stage, the gums become swollen and sensitive. Small bumps are usually seen where the tiny teeth are set to appear. As the teething process progresses and the teeth rise up to the gums' surface, the pain and soreness in this area will result in babies who lose their appetites, start becoming very fussy, and who are prone to developing a cold, fever or diarrhea.
Both teething and "false-teething" milestones can be trials for babies and adults alike. Discomfort can be relieved by providing babies with rubber teething rings, washcloths moistened with cold water, and even frozen fruit popsicles to ease the pressure on their gums. However, this will not help them at night when the pain of teething keeps them awake more than is usual. Adults, on the other hand, will find that taking pain relievers may help relieve the discomfort in their gums. Developing a dependence on these pain-relievers, however, may prove harmful in the long term.
One very effective remedy that may help both babies with teething and adults with new dentures comes in a tube. Teething gel can considerably ease the pain of emerging teeth, as well as relieve the soreness caused by new dentures. Active ingredients of teething gel brands may include lidocaine hydrochloride, a local anesthetic that temporarily impedes the pain pathways in the nerves; chlorocresol, a mild antiseptic that gets rid of bacteria or fungi that may infect areas of broken skin in the mouth, and cetylpyridinium, another anti-bacterial antiseptic.
A good teething gel applied to the affected area of the gums with a cotton ball or clean fingers will go a long way to relieving these teeth-related milestones in both babies and adults.

Uncover How to Treat Oral Thrush Fast

What Is Oral Thrush?
This condition is also known as Oral Candidiasis.  A fungus called Candida is the cause of a mouth yeast infection. This type of infection cannot be passed on to other people. Thrush is naturally present in everyone's mouth, including the elderly and babies.
Thrush can also be found in other areas of the body, including nail folds, vagina, and diaper areas. Denture wearers are commonly affected by this condition. People at a higher risk of this kind of infection include:
•    Diabetics
•    People who take steroids
•    People that have a difficult time keeping their mouth clean
Antibiotics can also be a common cause. This can be especially the case if someone has taken antibiotics over an extended period of time.
Detection
In order to be properly diagnosed, a patient may have a sample scraped from the mouth and sent for analysis at a laboratory. Certain known causes such antibiotics use and experiencing a difficult time with dentures should be investigated and treated prior to having this procedure done.
Indicators
Denture wearers will usually display white spots on the tongue and mouth.  These spots may form together to form larger spots, also known as plaques.  The underlying tissue may appear raw and red when wiped away. After the use of steroid or antibiotics, the affected areas are more often to look red and sore. Additionally, red sore areas may appear at the corner of the lips. These areas are known as angular stomatitis or angular cheilitis. A mild infection can actually be painless. But it can also become rather sore and irritated. In the case of babies, the soreness may cause them to drool saliva in order for them to properly feed.
Prevention
There are certain things that can be done that will lessen the odds of future outbreaks of oral thrush.
1)    If you are a diabetic, you can lower the risk of mouth yeast infections by good blood sugar level control.
2)    If you utilize a steroid inhaler, using a space device can reduce your odds of oral thrush.  Also, after using the inhaler, make sure to gargle and rinse your mouth.
3)    Dentures wearers are advised to keep their dentures meticulously clean and take them out before going to sleep.
4)    If you are taking medications and are experiencing a dry mouth as a result, try to keep the mouth moist by drinking regular sips of water.
5)    For babies, make sure all mouth toys, pacifiers, and feeding equipment are thoroughly sterilized.
Treatment
•    If left untreated, an oral yeast infection can cause uncomfortable soreness in the mouth. It can also cause dentures to not fit properly.
•    Keep the area of the mouth as clean as possible at all times. Rinse after every meal.
•    Try to not smoke cigarettes or wear dentures for more than 24 hours in one shot. Yeast clings to the fitting surface of dentures. For this reason, it's vitally important to practice good denture hygiene.
•    Never wear dentures overnight and keep them out as much as possible. Clean the dentures in warm soapy water and scrub the fitting surface with a soft nailbrush.
•    Any solution used to sterilized bottles for babies can also be used for dentures. Chlorhexidine solution can be used for dentures comprised of metal components.  Just be sure not to use bleach on this type of denture.
If attentive hygiene and cleaning don't do the trick, you may be prescribed lozenges or tablets to be slowly sucked.  This type of treatment usually lasts about a month. You may also need to check with your dentist after you have finished this treatment to make certain the condition has cleared.
Every few years, make sure to get new dentures made.
Finally, make sure to visit your dentist regularly, even if you don't have teeth. You need to make sure the condition of your mouth remains healthy.

How Much Do Dentures Cost Anyway? That Depends On This

So, how much do dentures cost, you ask? Well, that depends upon a few different factors. One thing that makes a big difference is the part of the country you live in. Some parts of the country have a definite advantage over others. Another thing to consider is the dental plan that you buy. Is it dental insurance or were you smart and got a dental discount plan instead? The next question would be which discount plan. All dental discount plans are not created equal and although the concept of these plans is absolutely fantastic for consumers, there are some plans that provide more benefits than others. The next question is do you live in a small town, medium town or big city? Dentures tend to cost a lot less in big city areas because of the level of competition between dentists.
Here is an example of one discount dental plan in the Mesa, Arizona area that offers fantastic savings on upper dentures. This particular discount plan only costs $119.95 per year for an individual or $159.95 per year for an entire family. The usual cost of upper dentures is $1252, but by joining this particular plan you'll only have to pay $518, a savings of $734. If you have a family then deduct $159.95 from your savings and you'll still end up saving a total of $574.05. You'll save $614.05 if you're single. You would also get a full year of additional dental care with similar discounts available on fillings, x-rays, cleanings, check-ups and much more.
If you are in need of upper dentures you really need to take a look at the dental discount plan option before you pay full price. There's a great chance that you could save yourself quite a bit of money on those upper dentures that you might be able to use for something else.

Here's How You Can Save Big On Discount Dental Dentures

If you are in need of new dentures, but don't want to have to pay full price, there's an option available that you may not be aware of that can realistically save you as much as 60% off, depending on where you live. This plan is called a discount dental plan and you can save a ton of money on discount dental dentures by joining one of these plans. Let me explain how they work.
Discount dental plans have nothing to do with insurance at all. Dental insurance does not pay for any problem that was there at the time that you bought the policy, so if you need dentures right now and don't already have a dental insurance plan, you're on your own. Actually, most insurance won't pay for dentures anyway because they consider them to be cosmetic. Never mind the fact that you have to eat.
These discount dental plans that specialize in discount dental dentures are very affordable for individual and family plans. Most individual plans are under $100 per year and most family plans are less than $150. This is based on where you live and the actual plan that you choose. Some are a bit more, while others are a bit less.
Here's an example of getting a great deal on discount dental dentures in the Baltimore, Maryland area, zip code 21215. According to a survey that was conducted in 2005, the average cost of an upper denture is $1252. With the plan that is being used in this example your cost will only be $588. That will save you $664 on that one visit alone.
The cost of joining this plan is only $149.95 for a family or $99.95 for an individual dental plan. Deduct the cost from what you've just saved on your new upper denture and your net savings is $564.05 if you're single or $514.05 if you have a family and this is just the beginning. You'll still have an entire year to use the discount plan and save.
So if you or someone in your family is in need of discount dental dentures, you should take a good look at a discount dental plan as your primary option.
