Taking care of false teeth using a do-it-yourself approach and homemade cleaning solutions can be quite effective. If you're interested, here's how it can be done.
1) You need to brush your denture first.
The exact same type of debris (bacteria, dental plaque, staining and tartar) that accumulates on natural teeth and oral tissues will accumulate on false teeth too. Effective denture cleaning always starts with a thorough brushing, both inside and out, in the presence of water. (This is true whether you plan to use a homemade or commercial cleaning product as your next step.)

A shared-function brush may retain residual amounts of other cleaners (such as toothpaste) on it and scratch up the surface of your denture.

Denture brushing alone will not be effective in keeping your dentures fresh and your mouth health. This is because at a microscopic level the surface of a denture is very porous. This means that there are an abundant number of locations in which microorganisms can find safe harbor, even after the most diligent brushing efforts. Because of this some sort of chemical cleansing and disinfecting is required for effective denture cleaning.
Homemade denture cleaning solutions.
Very suitable homemade denture cleaners can be made from common household products. Two of them are bleach and also vinegar. The following explains how to prepare and use them.
A) Bleach-based denture cleaning solution.
A dilution of household bleach (sodium hypochlorite, Chlorox) can be used to clean false teeth. It is typically used as a mixture of one part bleach to ten parts tap water. Dentures are usually soaked in this solution for about twenty to thirty minutes.
Diluted beach cleaning solution has been shown to effectively kill those microorganisms that remain harbored on false teeth even after a thorough scrubbing has been performed. And as you might expect, it will also remove some types of denture staining.
A bleach-based cleaner on its own will not be effective in removing tartar accumulation. This deficiency can be remedied by adding one teaspoon of Calgon water softener (Calgon the calcium-chelating agent, not Calgon the soap or bath oil) per glassful of one to ten bleach to tap water solution.

Precautions to consider when using a bleach-based denture cleaning solution.
While bleach solution is the most commonly used type of homemade denture cleaner, if you do choose to use it there are a few considerations you should keep in mind.
a) After soaking, you must thoroughly rinse your denture off with water. Any residual cleaner that does remain might cause gum irritation.
b) Long-term, regular use of a bleach-based denture soak may lighten the color of a denture's tissue-colored plastic. For most people this will either be a non-issue or else a change that is not readily apparent. But a change, especially when the long term is considered, is possible.
c) Bleach-based denture cleaners may tarnish the metal component of partial dentures. This is especially likely when the soak duration is greater than ten minutes per day.
d) Unless your dentist states otherwise, bleach-based denture cleaners typically are not considered to be appropriate for use with dentures that have a soft plastic liner.

B) Vinegar-based denture cleaners.
Vinegar (acetic acid solution) can be used as a denture cleaner. The usual recommendation is a soak created by mixing vinegar with an equal amount of water. This solution has been reported to be effective at killing the types of microorganisms that reside on the surface of dentures, however, less so than the bleach-based solution described above.
Vinegar-based denture cleaner is an effective way to remove tartar that has accumulated on false teeth. The acidic nature of the vinegar will soften and digest the tartar. A soaking may remove all or just some of it. That which remains may have become soft enough to brush off. If not, repeated soakings over time can be expected to do the trick.

Precautions to consider when using a vinegar-based denture cleaning solution.
Just as with bleach-based denture cleansers, there are precautions to take when using a vinegar-based one.
a) Vinegar-based denture cleaning solutions may tarnish the metal component of partial dentures.
b) Unless your dentist states otherwise, vinegar-based denture cleaners are not usually considered to be appropriate for use with false teeth that have a soft plastic liner.

Why use just one kind of denture cleaner?
It's not a bad idea to consider the use of more than one type of denture soaking solution. Bleach-based cleaner tends to excel in denture sterilization. Vinegar-based solution will be better at removing tartar and may (due to its acidity) be effective against some microorganisms than bleach. While you may not choose to use both types of soaks on the same day, you should consider switching off between the two on a daily (preferably) or weekly basis.

But first off, Charles Goodyear had to discover the secret to vulcanization. This is the process of "curing" rubber such that it can be molded as needed. Before Goodyear's discovery, rubber -- in its natural state -- was not very practical to work with. It is sticky but would not stay set in any one particular shape. With vulcanization, rubber, once cooled, would hold the shape in which it had been molded.
Many applications were thus found for rubber (poor Mr. Goodyear, incidentally, did not benefit financially from his invention, however, though he was publicly recognized by the Emperor of France and decorated with highly prestigious medals). One of these was dentures. Rubber was found to be a most welcome replacement for the dentures of that era, which were often made out of metal or even wood! Dentists were making their own dentures, and one of these dentists, it eventually turned out, had a curious nephew who started manufacturing rubber stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. This nephew, James Woodruff, is credited with inventing the quality rubber stamp we have come to know. There are numerous, in fact, numerous origins claimed of rubber stamps, and depending on how a rubber stamp is to be defined such geneses could even stretch back to Mayan civilization! The version just presented here is among the most widely accepted ones for those marking devices which we today would most immediately recognize as being rubber stamps.
Another very popular and widely accepted contender for the title of Inventor of The Rubber Stamp was L.F. Witherell, who went so far as to compose a document with the name of "How I Came to Discover the Rubber Stamp". He claimed to have gotten inspiration from his time as a foreman at a manufacturing facility of wooden pumps. Apparently, there was an identification marking problem of some kind where the paint would run, creating blotches on these pumps. Witherell hit upon the idea of creating stencils out of thin sheets of rubber packing. But while making the stencil, he thought to simply create thick letters out of the rubber, then gluing them to a backing of wood, with which he could make repeated impressions of his own initials.
The candidate considered least likely to be the inventor of rubber stamps, Henry C. Leland, was actually championed, ironically, at the time by no other than in an issue of the "Stamp Trade News" from a manufacturer of rubber stamps. But no matter the actual origins, there is no doubt that the rubber stamp itself has made quite an impression on history.

Bonding is actually used in many ways in cosmetic dentistry today:

7. Bonded cements are used now to chemically bond crowns and bridges to their anchor teeth.

Because the material is bonded, there is less drilling required than with older traditional fillings which had to have "retention " drilled into the tooth. Therefore, more natural tooth is preserved. The margins are the stronges part of a bonded restoration, so they don't tend to break down and allow redecay at the margins as the older materials did.
Since there is ofte less drilling required and less marginal leakage, bonded restorations are typically less sensitive afterwards than the older methods and often can be done during the appointment without anesthetic.

These restorations are much better looking than the older materials. Composite resins come in many shades to better match tooth color. Due to the bonding and expansion properties of composites, there seem to be fewer cracked and broken teeth with these restorations.

Tooth bonding itself is a one visit procedure, though the bonding can be associated with restorations that have been made in a laboratory. If the area of tooth to be restored is small, the materials used usually require only one visit. Larger areas require the two visit procedures. If done in two visits, there will be a temporary restoration (usually also a composite resin) placed with a sedative temporary cement.

Before bonding, any decay or old filling material present is removed. Then the tooth surface to be bonded is slightly roughened and treated with a mild etchant to provide maximum bond strength. Then the bonding materials are placed in a layered sequence and "cured" with a high intensity light after each layer. Then the restoration is shaped and polished to a smooth finish and proper contour and fit with adjacent and opposing teeth. Sometimes the tooth and bonding are then treated again and "sealed" with a clear sealer layer of bonding material.

It is very important to maintain the bonded restorations just like teeth by carefully brushing and flossing using a non-abrasive toothpaste. If many of the biting surfaces of teeth have been restored or there is a history of grinding or clenching of the teeth, then the dentist may recommend a plastic guard, called "occlusal guard" or "night guard" since many people wear them at night. The jaw joints are protected by the guard as well as the restorations.

HISTORY OF DENTURES
Sets of dentures have been found dating from the 15th century and probably existed before that time. Carved from bone or ivory, or made up of teeth from dead or living donors, these dentures were uncomfortable and rotted after extended use. The first porcelain dentures were made around 1770 by Alexis Duchateau. In 1791 the first Britishpatent was granted to Nicholas Dubois De Chemant, previously assistant to Duchateau. De Chemant's patent specification said (in part): "A composition for the purpose of making of artificial teeth either single double or in rows or in complete sets and also springs for fastening or affixing the same in a more easy and effectual manner than any hitherto discovered which said teeth may be made of any shade or color, which they will retain for any length of time and will consequently more perfectly resemble the natural teeth." He began selling his dentures in 1792 with most of his porcelain paste supplied by Wedgwood. Single teeth in porcelain were made from 1808. Later, dentures were made of vulcanite and then, in the 20th century, acrylic resin and other plastics. In Britain in 1968 79% of those aged 65-74 had no natural teeth, by 1998 this proportion had fallen to 36%.
There are many accounts of scavengers who, in ancient times, after hand-to-hand battles, searched the battlefields and removed healthy teeth from dead warrior's mouths and then sold those teeth to local dentists who invented ways to make the "recycled" teeth into new dentures for their patients.

In addition, there are legends about George Washington and his problems with dentures. Legends say he first had a local wood carver make him set of oak dentures, later, we are told, he had several other dentures carved out of elephant tusk ivory.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
What follows is a technical explanation about dentures, or, more accurately, removable complete dentures, also called full-mouth false teeth. A denture is used when a patient has no teeth left on the mandibular arch, the maxillary arch, or both. Patients can become entirely edentulous (without teeth) either due to ineffective oral hygiene or trauma. Removable complete dentures, can help give the edentulous patient better masticator (chewing) abilities, as well as enhance the esthetic appeal of their lips in specific and the entire face in general.
Removable partial dentures are for patients who are missing only some of their teeth on a particular arch. Fixed partial dentures, better known as crowns and bridges, are also for patients missing only some of their teeth, but these are more expensive than removable appliances, and they have some unique constraints in certain specific instances.
PROBLEMS WITH COMPLETE DENTURES
Problems with dentures include the fact that patients are not used to having something in their mouth that is not food. The brain senses this appliance as "food" and sends messages to the salivary glands to produce more saliva and to secrete it at a higher rate. New dentures will also be the inevitable cause of sore spots as they rub and press on the mucosa. A few denture adjustments during the weeks following removal of natural teeth and insertion of the dentures can take care of this issue. Gagging is another problem encountered by some patients. At times, this may be due to a denture that is too loose fitting, too thick or not extended far enough posteriorly onto the soft palate. At times, gagging may also be attributed to psychological denial of the denture. Psychological gagging is the most difficult to treat since it is out of the dentists' control. In such cases, an implant supported palate-less denture may have to be constructed or a hypnotist may need to be consulted.
Another problem with dentures is keeping them in place. There are three rules governing the existence of removable oral appliances: support, stability and retention.
SUPPORT
Support is the principle that describes how well the underlying mucosa (oral tissues, including gums and the vestibules) keeps the denture from moving in the vertical plane towards the arch in question, and thus being excessively depressed and moving deeper into the arch. For the mandibular arch, this function is provided by the gingival (gums) and the buccal vestibule (valley region between the gums and the lip), whereas in the maxillary arch, the palate joins in to help support the denture. The larger the denture flanges (the part of the denture that extends into the vestibule), the better the support.
More recently, there has been a move to increase denture stability with implants. When pressure is applied to alveolar bone bereft of teeth (alveolar bone is the bone in which natural teeth normally reside). The bone reacts to this pressure by re-sorbing. After many years of denture wearing, the ridges upon which the dentures rest deteriorate and can easily all but disappear. The insertion of implants into the bone below the dentures can help to seriously combat this unfortunate occurrence. The implants are strategically placed to bear the brunt of the pressure when the denture is used for chewing, thus keeping the bone from melting away. When implants are integrated into the treatment, the denture is now referred to as being an implant supported over-denture and the implants are referred to as over- denture abutments.
STABILITY
Stability is the principle that describes how well the denture base is prevented from moving in the horizontal plane, and thus from sliding side-to-side or front and back. The more the denture base (pink material) runs in smoother and continuous contact with the edentulous ridge (the hill upon which the teeth used to reside, but now consists of only residual alveolar bone with overlying mucosa), the better the stability. Of course, the higher and broader the ridge, the better the stability will be, but this is usually just a result of patient anatomy, barring surgical intervention (bone grafts, etc.).
RETENTION
Retention is the principle that describes how well the denture is prevented from moving in the vertical plane in the opposite direction of insertion The better the topographical mimicry of the intaglio (interior) surface of the underlying mucosa, the better the retention will be (in removable partial dentures, the clasps are a big time provider of retention), The surface tension, suction and just plain old friction will aid in keeping the denture base from breaking intimate contact with the mucosal surface. It is important to note that the most critical element in the retentive design of a full maxillary denture is a complete and total border seal in order to achieve "suction."
